Zaha Hadid aka first-lady of Pritzker aka bad ass architect is number 42 which is perfect since that is the answer to everything; as I suspected architecture has the finger on the pulse.

One day I'll be there - representing!!!!!!!!!!

  1. I would certainly not pay too much attention to these rankings. Most of these newspapers see them very cynically: they are just one way of making sure they sell a lot of copies when nothing in the news sells. Also, we never really know what they mean by "influential" or whatever ambiguous word they use: How is Caster Semenya influent? She is the victim of a media storm rather than anything else. Arguably, some people like Lula (not to mention Strauss-Kahn) have been more influential in world politics than Obama this year. David Cameron has been a complete flop in terms of foreign policy etc.

    Architecture has its finger on the pulse, by its very definition: it shapes where we are. It should also aspire to be lasting, though! There are far too many one-hit-wonder architects, whose work looks very poor in hindsight.

    Even in architecture the rankings are dubious. Marcio Kogan's Paraty House has proved more influential this year than any of Zaha's works!
