hahaha. Religious leaders are banning politicians who supported the marriage equality bill from "Catholic church and parochial school events." Shows their grasp-at-straws campaign. They come through like little kids who throw a tantrum in the store when they are told NO! This is why religious institutions SHOULD be taxed, and SHOULD not be held to any other standard than delirious fools. They need to keep banning people who hold different opinions from their institution, then maybe the masses can start realizing the business that is belief.
Atheism is the light, the way and the truth.

Religious leaders slammed the state's new gay marriage law on Saturday, vowing to ban politicians who supported the measure from any Catholic church and parochial school events.
The city's top Catholic clergy released strongly worded statements in the hours after the state Senate voted 33-29 to legalize gay unions.
Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, of the diocese of Brooklyn, called on all Catholic schools to reject any honor bestowed upon them by Gov. Cuomo, who played a pivotal role in getting the bill passed.
He further asked all pastors and principals to "not invite any state legislator to speak or be present at any parish or school celebration."
"This is a further erosion of the real understanding of marriage," DiMarzio told the Daily News. "The state should not be concerned about regulating affection."
"I believe the passage of same-sex marriage is another 'nail in the coffin' of marriage," DeMarzio wrote in an essay posted at NYDailyNews.com.
"It is destructive because we fail to view marriage in the context of a vocation: a calling to participate in the great enterprise of forming the next generation. Marriage is reduced to an empty honor," he wrote. "That there was virtually no public debate on the issue and that the entire matter was concluded in just over 30 minutes late on a Friday evening is disgraceful."
New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan said he was "very disappointed, very saddened and very worried" by the developments that will allow same-sex partners to legally wed.
"I think for anybody, especially state government, to tamper with something as sacred and timeless and as much a part of the human condition as marriage is careless," Dolan said.

Other States take note!!! I cannot believe that it is still an issue. Two adults should be able to get married and do as they please. Do not bring the bible, god, jesus, or your super bowl ring into this discussion.

I am disgusted by the homophobic slurs that Captain Owen Honors engaged in.
This isn't some Joe Blow from down the road. He is a highly decorated Aerospace Engineer, who has been in the Navy his whole life. This is a fighter pilot, who was in the Top Gun program and now is a Captain of a WARSHIP. He is held to higher standards and should conduct himself as such. We have poured millions of dollars into his training, for what?! If by now he has no common sense skills then he should NOT be in charge of a nuclear powered aircraft carrier. There are a ton of more suitable candidates that can exercise good judgement and a kick ass attitude.
I am repulsed by supporters who say this is just "satire". This isn't satire; this adds to the disgusting homophobic problems that we have in society. Teens and Young Adults are being bullied to DEATH because of who they are and "satire" like this reinforces HATE.
If you changed the homophobic slurs with the "n word" he would of been kicked off the Navy without thinking twice, but because this is about gays it is not taken as seriously. The gay community deserves the same protection and respect as any other racial/religious group.
Being homophobic is the SAME as being racist and the SAME as being antisemetic.

I'm wearing this to show support to the gay community:
Its been decided that on October, 20th 2010, we will wear purple in memorial of the GLBT youth who have committed suicide in recent weeks/months due to homophobic abuse in their homes and schools. Purple represents Spirit on the LGBTQ flag and thats exactly what we'd like all of you to have with you: Spirit. Please know that times will get better and that you will meet people who love you and respect you for who you are, no matter your sexuality. Wearing purple on the 20th in no way means you're a homosexual. It just means that you support the LGBTQ community, and that you are against homophobia.

It fucking sickens me to read all the emerging reports of what happened at Rutgers. I have saved this post as a draft because I just can't convey my disgust towards the perpetrators.
Gays can adopt!!!
I was raised by two heterosexual parents whose idea of parenting included mental and physical abuse. They paired it with alcoholism and self medicading; giving me a colorful upbringing.
When I hear ridiculous claims that same-sex couples cannot possibly raise children I shake my head in dissapointment. There is no other side of the argument. In my book: whenever a person(s) is against laws that would move gays rights forward, they are homophobic. Saying "I have nothing against gays, it's just in the bible..." that's code for "I don't want to come off as the homophob I am, so I'll just use the bible as excuse." Same, different sex couples, or single parents could raise another human being to be productive members of society; as long as they are good people with love to give and a stable home to provide - why stand in the way. When this ban was over turned I was ecstatic that children have a better chance to go to a loving home, than bounce around foster homes.

I am very upset that the don't ask don't tell policy is no closer to being eradicated! There was a ton of exposure and force behind this movement.

McCain and his right-wing pitch fork carrying party does NOT care what the people want. They just follow their own agenda fueled by religious mumblejumbo and delusions of how it ought to be. This is exactly why we need term limits; there is such a thing as being out of touch with reality.
As an inhabitant of planet Earth, I am ashamed that there is so much animosity within our own species (don't get me started on animal rights). It really eats me up inside they cannot marry, in some states adopt, attend their prom, openly serve in the armed forces. It is issues like this that feeds homophobia in our society and keeps the gay community as second class citizens.
If anyone gay/straight/bi/trans wants to serve this country and potentially die to protect our lifestyle, rights, constitution, government, etc - I have no problem with it and no one in D.C. should either. What happened to support our troops and having pride in our brothers and sisters in arms? In the battlefield the enemy does not care if their target is gay or straight. We must get it together and move forward as one.
Lets all be gay for a day :)

SEPT. 21: REPEAL DON'T ASK - DON'T TELL (video and picture heavy)
Ever since I saw her escorted to the MTV Awards by servicemembers impacted by the don't ask/don't tell policy I knew this would take off. She is such a proponent and fighter for the gay community - it makes my little heart flutter with more love for her.
The final hour has arrived. Today at 2:15 PM ET, the full Senate will determine whether "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT) repeal will move forward this year. For repeal to happen, we need 60 votes to break Senator John McCain (R-AZ)'s expected filibuster. All supporters must call their senators now.
Call both your senators at the Capitol switchboard right now and urge them to vote to end the filibuster and move on to a real debate on the Defense bill.
